Drug Screening: Mixed Germ Cell Tumor

The patient was diagnosed with a mixed germ cell tumor. After isolating and enriching CTCs from peripheral blood, they were cultured in vitro at Peking Union Medical College Hospital, followed by drug sensitivity testing. The drug sensitivity results showed that the cultured tumor cells were more sensitive to cisplatin than carboplatin (IC50 12.94 μM vs 188.3 μM). After actual treatment, the efficacy was significant, and the AFP marker dropped noticeably to normal levels.

Case Summary

• For young female patients with fertility preservation needs, in vitro drug sensitivity testing can increase the precision of chemotherapy, significantly reducing potential toxic side effects and the occurrence of drug resistance.

• Results of drug sensitivity tests can guide clinical medication, allow for sustainable monitoring and evaluation of efficacy, and enable timely adjustment of treatment plans.
